Demystified: The European Ceramic Workcentre as Centre of Excellence' deciphers for the first time the specific and fundamental reasoning for the successes behind this world leader. It describes the complex system of operation that exists throughout the entire organisation, a system that has matured and been refined over the course of the previous four decades. It explains how such an ideal working environment has developed, why this is unique to the EKWC, and why such excellence in practice is difficult to find in other related organisations around the world. Rather than focus attention on the already documented, innumerable results and artefacts of countless collaborations and working partnerships over previous decades, this survey describes with text and a comprehensive image base how it is that such results have been achieved. It explains how the nature of this work is influenced by prevailing circumstances and decision-making, be they of a logistical, directorial or theoretical nature. It is a demystification of previously unidentified interrelationships which explains how the interactive nature of an organisation such as the EKWC impacts on those working within it, and subsequently how it influences a much wider community outside.

In Karel Appel Onderweg brengt de internationaal gerenommeerde tentoonstellingsmaker Rudi Fuchs verslag uit van zijn zwerftocht langs Vlaamse en Nederlandse kunst van de Lage Landen. Hij neemt de kunstenaar Karel Appel mee op zijn fictieve reis en presenteert diens werk in dialoog met werk van andere grootmeesters en jonge kunstenaars. Door Rubens te presenteren naast Tuymans en Appel, en door de aanwezigheid van Van Dyck, Brusselmans, Permeke, Alechinsky en Raveel dringen vergelijkingen zich op en komen we intieme details op het spoor die ons anders wellicht zouden ontgaan. Fuchs probeert zich voor te stellen hoe Karel Appel naar schilderijen kijkt en hoe de schilderijen van anderen naar die van hem kijken. Op een eigenzinnige manier zet hij de lezer aan om anders naar de werken te kijken. Published on the occasion of an exhibition at Collezione Maramotti centring on the installation piece "Isolated Bathroom / Composition with Four Colors" by Dutch artist Mark Manders, this book comprises a lengthy series of black-and-white photographs from behind the scenes and of the artist's working environment, together with his creative process. In a special insert, Manders explains his thoughts on the piece, which Mario Diacono then further analyses in detail, discussing the spatial and semantic hierarchy of elements, its triggering of multiple associations, and relationship with Manders' entire body of work, extending from "Self-portrait as a building", begun in 1986.
